Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.D. Richardson (the Big Bopper) played their last concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, on February 2 1959. Their lives ended in a plane crash (pilot Richard Peterson) 5 miles northwest of the Mason City Airport on February 3, 1959, but their music lives on.
