No, this is not the 4th of July in Sioux City. New Year's Eve is traditionally celebrated in Europe much like the USA celebrates the 4th of July. Lots of fireworks, imbibing and merry making. This is the typical midnight celebration that lasts about 45 minutes surrounding the Heidelberg Castle. Keep in mind that all of the pyrotechnics seen in this sequence of images are not planned. Just everyday people celebrating in downtown Heidelberg on that particular evening. This event is not planned by the city, but it takes place every year. In itself worth a trip to this romantic German city on the Nekar.
